Hamilton shares emotional message after Monza experience

Lewis Hamilton has shared an emotional message following the Italian Grand Prix, the final European race of the season.

Hamilton is entering his last handful of races in Mercedes colours ahead of his switch to Ferrari next year.

The 39-year-old has enjoyed a highly successful stint at Mercedes, winning six world championships with the Brackley-based squad.

However has the curtain begins to draw on his association with the team, Hamilton took to Instagram to express his emotions.

“Leaving Monza, it hit me that it was the last European race this year,” he said. “The last time I’ll be in my room in engineering that’s been my home for 12 years.

“This is such a unique time in my life, one that continues to bring out a lot of emotions. What I feel the most is pride and gratitude. 

“The memories will last forever, as will the memories I make next year.”

Hamilton ended the race from Monza in fifth place, a venue he will return to next year with the backing of the Italian fans behind him.
