George Russell has shared an update on his health after battling an illness during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix last month.

Russell starred to a second place result in Baku last time out, marking his best finish since his Montreal victory in June.

However, the Briton almost ruled himself out of competing at the race event due to a respiratory illness, which would have seen reserve driver Valtteri Bottas step in.

Having had a weekend away from the race track to recover ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, Russell confirmed he is in much better condition.

However, the Mercedes driver admitted he is not feeling back to 100% health.

“Feeling better, to be honest,” Russell told media including RacingNews365

“Baku was a tough one, just in terms of how I was feeling. I'm not 100% right now, I've improved substantially.”

Russell will be putting his fitness to the test this weekend in Singapore, which is infamous for being one of the physically toughest events of the year due to the high heat, humidity and long lap.

While he expects he will be able to get through the race on Sunday, the 27-year-old is not expecting an easy ride.

“If I think there was any other race, I wouldn't have a single shred of concern,” he added.

“Singapore being Singapore and the obvious challenges here, I'm sure it will be fine, but Sunday won't be a breeze.”
