F1 champion backs Lando Norris for multiple title success

Lando Norris enters the upcoming F1 season as the reigning champion - can he back up his success with another title win?

1996 F1 champion Damon Hill has backed Lando Norris to win “three or four” titles during his career following his success last month.

Norris ended the 2025 campaign on top of the standings after finishing third at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, fending off a late threat from Max Verstappen to defeat the Dutchman by two points in the drivers' table.

It ensured Norris' name was added to the exclusive list of drivers who have won a title since the championship's inception in 1950.

Even more rare is the list of drivers who have won more than one title - but Hill has backed Norris to add to his tally in the years ahead.

“He’s done it and there’s a lot of comfort that comes from that,” Hill told the Stay on Track podcast.

“He will be able to, to some degree, relax. It’s a question of the amount of avarice you have to win.

“I always thought when Michael won one, two, three, four, five championships, he’d had enough, but then he went on to win one or two more.

“Some people, it propels them to go on to win multiple championships. I definitely think Lando’s got more than one in him. I think he’s probably got three or four.”

Norris' title success also saw him finish the year ahead of team-mate Oscar Piastri, who held the lead of the standings for much of the season.

Hill is expecting Norris to face an even stiffer challenge from Piastri as the Australian seeks to better himself after narrowly missing out on a title win of his own.

“The question is, will Oscar, because he’s in the same team with Oscar, and Oscar did not exactly underperform,” he said.

“There were moments when he dropped out last year. He will go through the winter and think, 'OK, what do I have to do to patch up those little holes in my performance?'

“He will find out how to stop that happening again. They've both been through a title fight with themselves and Max at the end. They will have learned massively from that.

“It will be a strong pairing, but there will be more determination within the team from Oscar to stop Lando beating him again.”
