Max Verstappen will start the French Grand Prix from pole after setting a time of 1.29.990 in qualifying, three tenths ahead of title rival Sir Lewis Hamilton who came in second.
The Red Bull of Verstappen was the fastest car on track during the practice sessions, and the team carried that form over into qualifying.
The second Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas qualified in third, ahead of the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez in fourth, while Carlos Sainz put his Ferrari fifth.
