Carlos Sainz Jr is on pole position for the 2022 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix after a stunning late effort in qualifying.
After the first runs, it was Charles Leclerc holding the advantage, but Sainz managed to pip his teammate by less than a tenth to claim pole outright - as Leclerc is carrying a 10-place grid drop.
Max Verstappen will line up second as Red Bull look to wrap up the 2022 Constructors' Championship - the day after the sad passing of owner Dietrich Mateschitz.
If Red Bull win the race, they are the champions, with Ferrari needing to out-score them by 19 points to carry the fight to Mexico.
Lewis Hamilton starts third - with teammate George Russell making it a all-Mercedes second row.
