Sergio Perez and both AlphaTauri drivers face possible grid penalties during the 2021 Formula 1 season after Yuki Tsunoda joined Perez and teammate Pierre Gasly on the list of drivers who are using their second MGU-K and energy stores.

Tsunoda completed just 11 laps in the opening practice session and was bottom of the timing sheets. He fared better in the second practice session but was forced to take a second MGU-K and energy store.

This year, each driver is limited to two energy stores for the 23-race calendar. All the Honda-powered drivers apart from Max Verstappen are already on the backfoot on power unit parts.

"In FP1, we spotted something on the electrical data from Tsunoda’s car, so we checked the PU and chassis and opted to change some component," Honda’s F1 technical director Toyoharu Tanabe told the press.

"Nevertheless, we still gathered a respectable amount of data which we can now analyse as we work on optimising our PU for tomorrow’s qualifying and Sunday’s race.
