Ferrari have shown that they mean business as Charles Leclerc will start the 2021 F1 Monaco Grand Prix from pole position after beating out Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas.
However the session was brought to an end early as Leclerc ended up in the wall in the closing seconds, ensuring he will start on pole. Meanwhile Lewis Hamilton could only manage the seventh fastest time.
AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda and Alpine's Fernando Alonso were the surprise eliminations in Q1, while Mick Schumacher didn't even take part after he was ruled out following a big crash in his Haas in the final practice session.
Daniel Ricciardo's difficult weekend continued as he failed to get out of Q2 and will start Sunday's race in 12th, just behind Esteban Ocon.
