Formula 1 2021 has drawn to a close this week with a two-day test at the Yas Marina Circuit that was technically two separate sessions rolled into one.
One of these tests was for Pirelli, with all of the teams taking part in 18-inch tyre testing using mule cars - modified 2018 cars built to run the newer, bigger wheels that are set to be introduced in 2022. Williams, while able to take part in this test if they wanted to, didn't as they never built a mule car for this purpose.
Separately, there was a dedicated Young Driver Test. All of the teams fielded a junior driver (of two Grands Prix experience or fewer), who drove the 2021 cars on the outgoing 13-inch wheels.
