Formula 1's contentious new 'Sprint Qualifying' format will be used for the first time this weekend. The session, which takes the form of a thirty minute sprint race, will determine the starting grid for the Grand Prix by using the finishing order of Sprint Qualifying.

The format will be trialed at three events this season, with traditional qualifying shifted to Friday afternoon as a result, and with one of the practice sessions taken away from the drivers and teams.
