Haas facing final evaluation as 2027 line-up decision nears

The Haas F1 team will carry out a test later this week as it closes in on a decision over its driver line-up for the 2027 season.

While Oliver Bearman is widely expected to continue with Haas for a third-straight season, the identity of his team-mate has not yet been confirmed.

Currently in the second seat is Esteban Ocon, who joined the American squad last year following a stint at Alpine.

As the team mulls over its options, fresh contenders have emerged - including Formula 2 championship contender Rafael Camara.

It has been rumoured that Camara is in the strongest position of all contenders to obtain a seat and step up to F1 as a rookie driver next year.

However, RacingNews365 understands that no such decision will be made until after Haas conducts a TPC (testing of previous cars) run at Jerez later this week.

On Thursday, Jack Doohan will get behind the wheel as the team evaluates his potential for a promotion next year.

Doohan has seven grand prix starts in his career with Alpine, but was dropped from a race seat shortly after the start of 2025 campaign in favour of Franco Colapinto.

At the start of 2026, Doohan joined Haas as a reserve driver in a bid to get himself back onto the grid.

While it seems Camara is in the better position as things stand, it is a challenging decision for the team to make, as his promotion would see Haas field two Ferrari juniors.

It is understood would bring some financial backing to Haas, but the team would effectively be without its own in-house competitor, with Ferrari having ultimate control over their futures.

Finally, one outside option for Haas is its development driver, Ryo Hirakawa.

The Japanese driver has taken part in multiple FP1 outings with Haas over the last two years as part of the team's relationship with Toyota Gazoo Racing.

However, paddock voices suggest that Hirakawa's chances are minimal at best.
