Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and Fernando Alonso clear crucial Le Mans F1 roadblock

Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and Fernando Alonso could all potentially race at the 2027 Le Mans 24 Hours after a crucial roadblock was avoided. 

The twice-around-the-clock French endurance race is scheduled for June 12th-13th, 2027, and falls within a gap in the 2027 F1 calendar, which was unveiled on Wednesday morning. 

The Monaco Grand Prix takes place on Sunday, June 6th, before the returning Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimao is pencilled in for Sunday, June 20th. 

It means the weekend of June 12th-13th is free and a clash with Le Mans, as happened in 2026 for the first time since 2016, is avoided. 

Alonso is the only one of the trio to have competed at Le Mans, winning for Toyota in both 2018 and 2019, the former when he was an active F1 driver for McLaren - the last driver to compete at the Circuit de la Sarthe whilst being active in grand prix racing. 

Norris has recently tested McLaren's new Hypercar at Portimao as McLaren prepare to enter the class next year, with Verstappen long stating his ambition to race at Le Mans.

Qualifying and practice takes place the week of the race, meaning there would not be a clash with F1 duties, whilst the rookie orientation test must also be completed.

Not the only clash avoided

An F1 grand prix also clashed with the other race in motorsport's 'triple crown' in 2026, with the Canadian GP over-lapping the the thrilling photo-finish of the Indianapolis 500. 

For 2027, another clash has been avoided. 

The trip to Montreal ends with the grand prix on Sunday, May 23rd, with the Indy 500 taking place on May 30th. 

This then leads into Monaco on June 6th, before Le Mans on June 12th-13th. 

However, it would not be possible for any driver to compete in all three 'Triple Crown' races, as the numerous practice sessions and qualifying for the Indy 500 clash directly with F1's Canada weekend.
