Racing Bulls has announced the inauguration of a "state-of-the-art" and "groundbreaking" fuel cell plant at its Faenza base.
The move, which marks "a major milestone in sustainable innovation for motorsport", is a new facility which integrates a cutting-edge photovoltaic plant and a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC), which is directly powered by "certified biomethane sourced from local partners."
Located within the 14,500-square-metre 'Racing Bulsl Green Energy Park' near its Faenza HQ, the project "ensures a reliable and self-sufficient energy supply" for the base, and supports the local economy.
An average annual production of 4.6 GWh of carbon-neutral electricity is expected, with heat recovery systems also providing the base's heat, with the entire system not drawing on the local water supply, significantly reducing emissions and pollution.
"I am thrilled to highlight our commitment to minimising the environmental footprint of our operations and achieving true energy autonomy," explained Facility Management & HSE Director Enrico Fastelli.
"By forming strong partnerships with local suppliers, we’re not only reducing emissions but also driving innovation and growth within our community. By maximising opportunities for synergy with the local area, we’re fostering the development of skills and partnerships that benefit everyone involved."
Gianmaria Balducci, the president of Cefla, a team partner heavily involved in the project, spoke of his pride at the partnership.
"Today, exactly one year after the start of our partnership with Racing Bulls, we are celebrating a milestone that projects that same vision into the future of sustainability," he said.
"We are inaugurating a Nova Solution by Cefla plant that is already up and running and fully operational. This gives us great pride to see how our history, made up of great achievements, is now enriched with a new chapter in which Italian technological innovation guarantees energy self-sufficiency to such an illustrious partner."
