McLaren 'excited' by 'outstanding' Lando Norris decision to renew F1 contract

McLaren is "excited" by what lies ahead in the future after the "outstanding" Lando Norris decided to commit his long-term future to the team with a new contract.

Norris has agreed to a new long-term deal to stay with McLaren until the end of the 2030 season, with an option to extend further into the next decade. 

The reigning world champion is already the most experienced driver in McLaren's F1 history, overtaking David Coulthard's record of 150 starts at the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix, and has ensured his stay at Woking, which has thus far yielded 13 wins, 18 poles, 48 podiums, and the 2025 drivers' title, will continue into a third decade, having made his debut in 2019.

Norris is a product of McLaren's junior driver system, the most successful since Lewis Hamilton in the 2000s, with CEO Zak Brown "excited" by what the Briton and McLaren can achieve over the next few seasons. 

"I’m incredibly pleased to be signing a new contract with Lando, extending his commitment with McLaren until at least 2030," Brown said.

"His journey with the team is a fantastic example of our commitment to identifying, developing and supporting world-class talent, and his achievements speak for themselves.

"Together with Andrea, Oscar and the wider team, Lando has helped drive McLaren into a new papaya era of success, helping us go from the back of the grid to double consecutive Constructors’ titles in 2024 and 2025 and our first Drivers’ Championship in 17 years.

Lando Norris extends McLaren F1 contract

Norris has won the previous two grands prix in Hungary and the Netherlands, to move to within 83 points of the championship leader, Kimi Antonelli, with his team principal Andrea Stella speaking of the traits which have made Norris so "valued by everyone in the team."

"Lando has been an integral part of McLaren’s journey and success over the last nine years, and we are delighted to continue our partnership with him through to at least 2030," said Stella. 

"He is an exceptional driver, someone who combines outstanding natural speed with maturity, consistency and a strong commitment to McLaren, but above all, he is a special human being who is valued by everyone in the team.
