Breaking: Lando Norris signs new long-term F1 contract

Lando Norris has signed a new contract to remain at McLaren until at least 2030, with a multi-year option to commit beyond that date. 

The reigning world champion's current contract is believed to have expired at the end of the current season, but he has now put pen to paper on a new long-term deal, which will see his stay at Woking extend into a third decade after making his debut for the team in 2019.

The 26-year-old has won 13 grands prix, taken 18 pole positions, and 48 podiums in his 163 starts for the team, and in 2025, became the first McLaren driver to win the world championship since Lewis Hamilton in 2008. 

Norris, who rose through the McLaren junior ranks before getting promotion to grand prix racing, has since gone on to become the most experienced driver in the team's F1 history, eclipsing David Coulthard's record at the 2025 Qatar GP with his 151st start.

Norris will also be gifted an example of his championship-winning MCL39 machine to keep, serving as what McLaren called a "lasting reminder of his contribution to the team."

The news follows Oscar Piastri extending his contract last year, and team principal Andrea Stella and CEO Zak Brown following suit - thus keeping together the nucleus of McLaren's world-championship-winning foundations. 

"McLaren is my home, and I’m very pleased to be signing a new contract to keep me with the team until at least 2030," said Norris. 

"When I started this journey nine years ago, I was clear about the goals I wanted to achieve: to get McLaren back to the front and to win Championships. 

"We’ve achieved that goal, but we want more; we want to keep on winning, and we know as a team that we’re capable of achieving it.

"I can’t wait to get back in the car in Monza, and I’m very excited about what the future holds for us, both over the rest of this season and in the coming years."
