Antonio Giovinazzi began his karting career in the year 2000, with his success leading him to transition to cars in 2012. Competing in the Formula Pilota China series, the Italian dominated proceedings, winning the championship comfortably. He would then make the step up into Formula 3, with the help of funding from the Galeal family.

His standout season in F3 came in 2015, where he finished second in the standings for the Jagonya Agam with Carlin team. Giovinazzi would then contest a few races in the DTM championship, as well as various endurance races including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2018.

The Italian competed in the final year of the GP2 Series (the championship later rebranded as Formula 2) with the Prema Powerteam in 2016. He finished second in the standings behind teammate and eventual champion Pierre Gasly.

Giovinazzi made two F1 appearances during the 2017 season for Sauber after filling in for the unwell Pascal Wehrlein. He finished 12th in Australia, but suffered two big crashes during the Chinese Grand Prix weekend. The Italian spent the rest of the year and 2018 as a reserve driver for Ferrari.

In 2019, Giovinazzi was given a boost when he was signed on to partner Kimi Raikkonen at Alfa Romeo. In his three seasons with the team, his best result came at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, where he finished fifth.

Giovinazzi was left without a seat in Formula 1 at the end of the 2021 campaign, having been replaced by rookie Guanyu Zhou for 2022. The Italian is now competing in the Formula E series.
