Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon provided very different answers when asked about their futures at Williams as the team endures a troubling period.
The Grove-based squad has started the campaign down the pecking order, having targeted the 2026 F1 regulation reset as an opportunity to make significant strides forward.
It has scored 11 points in the opening seven rounds, but the drivers have been left to contend with a car that is overweight and lacking aerodynamic efficiency.
The struggling form has sparked speculation over what it may mean for its Sainz and Albon going forward, and both were asked about their futures at the Austrian Grand Prix.
When quizzed on whether he is looking at other opportunities on the grid, Sainz told media including RacingNews365: “Not really. I’m not.
“Seriously, I’m not, because I have so much work to do here in Williams right now over the next few races and the amount of simulator sessions we’re doing, the amount of meetings that are being held over the last few months.
“I’ve also told my team to leave me a bit on my own until the summer break, just to try and help Williams and improve the situation as much as possible.”
Sainz confirmed that he will look at “options” later in the year but insisted his priority is to remain at Williams next year.
“In the summer break, it will obviously be the time to think about it, look at the options.
“I think the team by now knows what my intentions and my priorities are, which would be to continue in this team, in this project.”
The Spaniard added that he hasn't asked his management how the driver market is shaping up as he is seeking to have “as little noise as possible in my head.”
His answer differed greatly from that of Albon.
Albon, who recently became the most experienced driver in Williams' history by entering his 96th race with the team, gave a much more reserved answer.
When asked if he had a contract in place for next year, Albon replied: “I'll keep that to myself.”
The Thai driver was then pushed further on the topic, asking if he could confirm he would be at the team next year, to which he said: “I'll stay quiet on that.”
