Which teams and drivers completed the most pre-season laps?

Ferrari put in more laps than any other team during pre-season testing for the 2022 F1 campaign, with a total of 788 completed across the Barcelona and Bahrain tests.

The Scuderia have been the subject of much speculation, with the likes of Mercedes tipping them to potentially be front-runners as soon as the first race, following an apparently positive experience in testing, where the F1-75 looked both fast and reliable.

However, the Silver Arrows weren't far behind on lap count. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell achieved a total of 778 laps across both tests, only 10 short of what Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz managed.

Mercedes were the most productive team in Bahrain, whilst Ferrari put in the most laps in Barcelona by a sizeable margin.

Behind them, AlphaTauri had the third-highest mileage, having completed 679 laps, and just behind them are Red Bull, with 677 laps to their name – despite the team experiencing some gearbox issues in Barcelona.

At the bottom of the table are Haas. The American-led outfit had the lowest lap count in Barcelona, and only McLaren put in less mileage than them in Bahrain due to the Woking-based squad suffering with brake issues.

Sainz the most productive driver in pre-season testing

In terms of drivers, Sainz completed more laps than anybody else across both tests. The Spaniard led the mileage charts in Barcelona, with 236 laps to his name, and added a further 180 in Bahrain.

Lando Norris was the most productive driver at the Bahrain International Circuit, which is unsurprising given that he was behind the wheel of the McLaren for every session, due to Daniel Ricciardo testing positive for COVID-19. His total tally from all six days of pre-season testing was only the sixth-highest in all, though.

Russell was the only driver besides Sainz to rack up more than 400 laps in total. Behind him, Pierre Gasly achieved 381 laps in the AlphaTauri, and Leclerc and Hamilton put in 372 and 371 respectively.

At the bottom of the rankings are Nikita Mazepin, Pietro Fittipaldi and Robert Kubica. Mazepin was dropped by Haas before the Bahrain test, resulting in reserve driver Fittipaldi getting behind the wheel of the VF-22 for the first shift.

Meanwhile, Alfa Romeo's test driver, Kubica, had a brief stint in the car in Barcelona, but the team suffered issues which limited their running, meaning the Pole was only able to put nine laps on the board.
