Formula 1 have released speed trap data from day one of testing in Bahrain and it makes for positive early reading for Christian Horner and Red Bull.

Their two cars, armed with power units manufactured by Honda, lead the way in terms of top speed after the first day at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Red Bull and sister team AlphaTauri are the only two outfits on the grid to break through the 326 kilometres per hour barrier, with Pierre Gasly also putting in the fastest lap of the day.

There was pace in the Mercedes engine, too, put on display by Alex Albon in the Williams who placed third, although it is of course not yet known which teams are masking the true potential of their straight-line speed by sandbagging.

With that in mind, here are the top speeds registered by each driver on day one in Bahrain:

Bahrain F1 testing speed trap (Day 1 - Thursday)

Team Driver Engine Speed (KM/H)
Red Bull Perez Honda 326.2
AlphaTauri Gasly Honda 326.0
Williams Albon Mercedes 325.4
Ferrari Leclerc Ferrari 322.9
Alfa Romeo Zhou Ferrari 322.5
McLaren Norris Mercedes 322.3
Alpine Alonso Renault 322.1
Haas Fittipaldi Ferrari 319.2
Aston Martin Vettel Mercedes 318.3
Alfa Romeo Bottas Ferrari 317.1
Mercedes Hamilton Mercedes 317.0
Ferrari Sainz Ferrari 316.8
Alpine Ocon Renault 316.5
Aston Martin Stroll Mercedes 316.4
Mercedes Russell Mercedes 311.8

Who put in the fastest lap on day one in Bahrain?

It was Gasly, behind the wheel of his AlphaTauri, who ended the day at the top of the timesheets with a 1:33.902 on the Soft C5 compound tyre.

He was the only driver on the day to break into the 1m33s, finishing ahead of Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), who were second and third fastest, respectively.

Lance Stroll was fourth (Aston Martin) with Albon in fifth, while Red Bull and Mercedes appeared to be masking their true pace.

For now, teams remain focused on putting as many laps on the board as possible as they look to learn all they can about their new cars.
