Valtteri Bottas has confirmed that he will not serve a grid penalty at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend.
Bottas has returned to the sport with Cadillac this year as the American squad embarks on its first season in the sport.
However, it was expected that Bottas would have to serve a grid drop after picking up a penalty at his last race.
This came at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where a disastrous race saw him pick up two separate time penalties for collisions with now-team-mate Sergio Perez and Haas' Kevin Magnussen.
Bottas retired from the race, and the full penalty could not be served - meaning it transitioned into a five-place grid drop at the next applicable event.
But the Finn has now confirmed that he will not be demoted on this weekend's grid as he takes part in his first grand prix in 15 months.
“It's great to be back here in Melbourne in the paddock for the first race of the 2026 season,” he said on social media.
“It gets even better - I've got some good news for you.
You know my five place grid penalty? It's gone. With the new regulations, it's vanished. Happy days!”
RacingNews365 has requested clarification from the FIA over the decision.
