Max Verstappen outlines greatest desire for post-F1 career

Max Verstappen has set his sights on taking part in endurance racing once he opts to bring his F1 career to an end.

The four-time champion has long voiced his appreciation for endurance competition and often takes part in virtual events on his simulator.

He also dipped his toes into the world earlier this year with an appearance at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, having had several outings at the Nordschleife in preparation for the event.

Verstappen recently extended his Red Bull contract until the end of 2030 as he targets a return to the front of the field with the Milton Keynes-based squad.

But having already had a taste of endurance racing, Verstappen insisted that he is only getting started.

When asked what else is on his bucket list, Verstappen told BBC Sport: "All the endurance races.

“Eventually, of course also Hypercar [the world endurance championship]. I don't want to rush it. 

“I want to do it in the right environment. On my terms. And competitive."

In the past, it has been suggested that Verstappen and Fernando Alonso could team up for an entry at the 24 Hours of Le Mans - the most prestigious endurance race.

Verstappen has confirmed he has discussed the possibility with his fellow champion, but admitted scheduling conflicts could get in the way.

"We've talked about it. I mean, look at Fernando,” Verstappen said. 

“He's 45 and he's still flying. Especially for Le Mans, with his experience, it could be a good option. It needs to fit our schedules. 

“It needs to make sense. It needs to be on my terms. And there needs to be a real chance to go there and win it."
