Pierre Gasly issues Alpine plea after 'surprisingly good' F1 return

Pierre Gasly has implored Alpine to maintain the pace advantage it enjoyed over the F1 midfield after a "surprisingly good" Miami Grand Prix weekend.

The Frenchman scored a point in the sprint in Florida, coming home in eighth, before Franco Colapinto scored six more points in the grand prix.

Despite Gasly retiring early from the 57-lap race at the Miami International Autodrome after being flipped by Liam Lawson's Racing Bulls, his team-mate was able to bring his A526 across the line in eighth, before being promoted to seventh due to Charles Leclerc's post-race 20-second time penalty.

The extra two points pushed Alpine to 23 over the opening four rounds of the campaign, one more than it managed across the entire 2025 season.

"Obviously, I hope that it's going to be the same in Canada," Gasly told media, including RacingNews365. "I think [Miami] seemed to be surprisingly good on our side compared to the rest of the midfield, and hopefully it's not track-specific.

"There'll be more work to do over the next two weeks, but that's why I think it was quite important to capitalise on this good form, and now we've just got to work and make sure we still have this pace advantage going to Canada."

Alpine sits fifth in the constructors' standings, and upon F1 returning from its spring break, Team Enstone appeared to have taken a step forward compared to its rivals, even if the leading teams have also improved.

Gasly looked a shade slower than Colapinto over one lap in the Sunshine State, being outqualified twice, and is keen to understand the causes behind that pace deficit.

"I think the field is just slightly more spread than we thought," the one-time grand prix winner said. "So the gaps probably with the cars ahead were a bit bigger, but I think on my side, there are three or four tenths we need to find, like just understanding the struggles I've had with the traction.

"But the cars behind clearly seem to have taken a step back in terms of pace compared to us. Still, I'd rather be in this position going into Canada, but we just need to make sure we keep that advantage."
