Oscar Piastri has stated McLaren has warned of “consequences” if both the Australian and team-mate Lando Norris do not stick to its racing principles.
Norris and Piastri clashed on the opening lap of the Singapore Grand Prix last time out, which threatened to escalate the title fight between the pair.
Piastri felt he was unfairly pushed out of the way by Norris, and was left annoyed when McLaren opted not to order the drivers to swap positions.
Following a review, Piastri revealed McLaren has placed responsibility on Norris' shoulders for the incident, with the Briton accepting he overstepped the mark.
With just six rounds remaining, Piastri asserted he will not change his approach of racing his team-mate, as he understands there will be repercussions if he goes against the team's instructions.
“We had a lot of discussions as, you would expect,” Piastri told media including RacingNews365.
“It was very productive, we're very clear on how we want to go racing as a team.
“That includes going forward, and the incident we had in Singapore isn't how we want to go racing.
“Lando has taken responsibility for that, and so has the team.
“It's quite clear for us as a team that how lap one unfolded wasn't how we want to go racing.”
McLaren's lack of action following the incident led some fans to suggest the Woking-based is favouring Norris as the title fight reaches its final stages.
Piastri refuted the suggestion, maintaining both are driving on a level playing field.
“We analysed the incident, and there has been responsibility placed on Lando, ultimately, in that collision,” he said.
“But I'm very happy that there's no favouritism or bias.”
