Charles Leclerc provides health update after 'the shock' of major Monza smash

Charles Leclerc has revealed it was "the shock" of his crash in Sunday's Italian Grand Prix that caused him the most consternation rather than suffering any physical issues that could have prevented him from competing in this Sunday's race in Madrid.

Leclerc suffered a 60g impact into a tyre wall after losing his Ferrari through Parabolica, destroying his SF-26. The Monégasque driver was clearly in distress as he sat on the grass after extracting himself from his car and whilst he waited for medical attention.

Leclerc revealed after the incident to suffering with an issue with his vision, albeit one that quickly rectified itself.

Asked whether there were any issues in the days that followed that may have prevented him from not driving this weekend at F1's newest circuit, speaking to the media, including RacingNews365, Leclerc said: "No, not to that extent.

"I felt the tightness and a bit of pain in the neck on Monday, but in terms of vision, it was very short [the problem].

"Right after I got out of the car, one eye was, I don't know, maybe not working properly, but then it was fully fine after a few seconds, so I was not too worried.

"I knew it was a big shunt, and obviously that's never a good thing for the body, but straight away I could see quite nicely."

As to the medical checks that followed and whether they revealed anything, Leclerc added: "It [the crash] was quite a big one.

"Probably from the outside it looked like a big one as well, but it also felt like a big one. Sometimes it can look quite big from the outside, but from [inside] the car it's fine.

"But getting out, I wasn't feeling so well. Actually, it was just the shock. I did quite a lot of checks and had quite a lot of treatments in the first two days, mostly for the neck because I felt a little bit tight, which I guess is normal. But now I'm fine.

"All the checks I did were fine."
