Max Verstappen explains why Red Bull has not cured long-standing problem

Max Verstappen has addressed Red Bull's difficulties with bumps and kerbs, and why the Milton Keynes-based squad has struggled to remedy the issue across generations of F1.

It was a problem that saw the Dutchman and his team flounder at street circuits in recent years, where bumps and kerbs are prevalent, and that Achilles' heel has not gone away, despite this season ushering in a new era of F1 regulations.

Last weekend at Monza, the four-time F1 drivers' champion complained about the ride of his RB22, specifically its rear axle, especially over the bumps and kerbs of the Temple of Speed.

And with the championship venturing to the Madring for the first time this weekend, it promises to be another round where the six-time constructors' champions must face up to one of the team's oldest weaknesses.

"It's a known problem for us for a long time, so it's something that we are trying to figure out, trying to fix, trying to be better at," Verstappen told media, including RacingNews365.

"But we know that kerbs and bumps are not the best thing for our car."

'The answer is not very clear'

Because F1 teams all develop their own cars in a vacuum to the predetermined rulebook, it is commonplace for a certain team's car to retain particular characteristics, or a DNA, across regulation cycles.

When asked if some of the challenges Red Bull sought to address last year have transferred to the current campaign, Verstappen expanded on his prior remarks.

"Yeah, for sure, some things carried over from the previous cars," the 71-time grand prix winner added.

"I was complaining about the ride and the kerbs before, and I'm still complaining about it. So, for sure, there are things that we are looking into to try and fix, but unfortunately, the answer is not very clear or straightforward because otherwise, of course, we would have fixed those things.

"F1 can sometimes be very complicated, and it cannot be easy to pinpoint one exact problem because it might be a few things that come together to create a problem, and you need to figure out all those details on the car to try to be better at a certain aspect."
