Max Verstappen's qualifying outing at the Austrian Grand Prix ended with a high-speed spin into the barrier.
The Dutchman was gunning for his first pole position of the season in a battle that involved the Red Bull driver, both Ferraris and the Mercedes duo.
Charles Leclerc shot himself to the head of the timesheet in the dying stages of the session, and Verstappen was on course to challenge his lap time.
However, as he entered Turn 9, Verstappen's car went into a high-speed spin and glided through the gravel before hitting the wall.
Thankfully for Verstappen, he was able to walk away from the incident. He is now due to start Sunday's race from fifth on the grid.
Confusion was sparked after the crash when George Russell soared to the top spot to claim pole position despite passing Verstappen's stricken car.
However, the stewards took no further action after determining that the Mercedes driver lifted off enough when passing his rival.
