Max Verstappen has issued a Red Bull concern that it is "falling a bit short" at the Red Bull Ring despite introducing major upgrades for the Austrian Grand Prix.
The four-time world champion endured a difficult and problematic opening day at the Austrian outfit's home race.
Verstappen's Friday began with him coming to a halt twice in the pit lane after leaving the Red Bull garage, costing him the opening minutes of first practice.
He did manage to complete the majority of first practice and the entirety of second practice, but he also faced issues with his seat position, grip and tyre degradation.
The Dutchman complained of having no grip and of the tyres becoming too hot as the air temperature rose above 30 degrees Celsius.
Many eyes were on Red Bull due to the introduction of its second significant upgrade package, although Verstappen was still almost six-tenths adrift of pacesetter Kimi Antonelli.
Verstappen knows Red Bull needs to unlock more, although he has accepted that it is not quite at the right level.
"It was a bit tricky today to find the right balance," Verstappen. "We need to work on the grip from the front to the rear.
"We need to find the right compromise there to try and find more speed, because it looks like we are falling a bit short.
"We will see what we can do tomorrow to find a bit more balance in general."
