Liam Lawson has acknowledged the F1 pecking order remains an “unknown” and does not expect any clues in the near future.
Lawson had his last appearance at the Barcelona shakedown test on Thursday as Racing Bulls endured its third and final day of on-track action.
The New Zealander tallied 64 laps during the morning session before team-mate Arvid Lindblad jumped behind the wheel in the afternoon.
Having concluded his own programme, Lawson asserted the team has made strong steps forward across the three days.
“We just keep learning,” Lawson said. “We are obviously making big gains but so is everybody else.
“Very, very different cars but in a much better place than we were on Monday, which is the main thing.
“We just need to keep learning and improving the car.”
Teams are using the shakedown to gather initial data on their new cars, which have been built under a new set of technical regulations.
As a result, Lawson does not expect the pecking order to become clear for some time.
“In terms of mileage, we have honestly had a pretty strong test in term of reliability, so that’s been a box ticked,” he said.
“In terms of expectations, it’s very hard [to know], we don’t know where anybody else is.
“That will still be unknown for a while, but the main thing is we’re getting the laps down that we want to and learning what we need to about our car.”
