Lewis Hamilton has shared what he told Lando Norris ahead of the F1 season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where the McLaren driver won his first world championship.
The 105-time grand prix winner told the 26-year-old, "Don't change anything", as his approach over the final few rounds of the campaign was working.
Norris prevailed against Max Verstappen and team-mate Oscar Piastri in the three-way title decider at the Yas Marina Circuit, finishing behind the pair in third.
However, that was enough to ensure he took the crown by two points over the Red Bull driver, who won the grand prix.
Hamilton reflected on his own experience of winning the F1 drivers' championship when asked for his thoughts on Norris' triumph.
The seven-time title winner won his first with McLaren and was the last driver from the Woking-based team to win the crown until Sunday evening.
"I'm really, really happy for him," the Ferrari driver told Sky Sports F1. "Winning your first world championship is truly special.
"The UK [United Kingdom] continues to pump out great drivers.
"I know what the feeling is also when you're coming into this race and fighting for your first championship, it's nerve-racking..."
Hamilton explained that he had some words of wisdom for the 11-time grand prix winner, who kept a cool head throughout the 58-lap finale.
"I'm just really proud of him," the 40-year-old added. "Before the weekend, I just told him what he's been doing works and don't change anything — and I guess that's what he did."
