Sergio Perez spies Cadillac breakthrough at 'scary' Madring

Sergio Perez believes the "scary" Madring offers Cadillac an opportunity to make a breakthrough and score its first points in F1. 

After 13 rounds, the team remains on zero points and in 11th in the constructors', with its best finish being 13th for Valtteri Bottas in China, with Perez's own best being 15th in Monaco. 

However, during the race in the Principality, Perez initially crossed the line in 11th on the road, and was then promoted to 10th after Nico Hulkenberg was awarded a penalty. 

The Mexican was then himself handed a 10-second penalty for being out of position at the red flag restart, dropping him down to 15th, and crucially, promoting Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso into 10th. 

The team has not been in a position to fight for points since, as reliability issues have set in, but given the chaotic nature expected of the new Madring in the Spanish capital, where a recent F3 test featured 19 red flags over two days, Perez feels there is an opportunity for Cadillac to finally get on the board this coming weekend. 

"The track itself, it's a proper race track, from what I've seen," Perez told media, including RacingNews365. 

"I haven't been on the circuit yet, but from what I've seen on the simulator, it's a proper track. It's a bit scary, I'll say. It reminds me a bit of Jeddah, a good, proper track.

"I don't think there is a place more dangerous than Jeddah; it is already quite dangerous. So I don't think Madrid will be something like on that level. I think nobody knows. We have to wait and see.

"It all depends on what grip level we get, but I think there is no room for error. I think I like those places, as you get punished, and it's very rare. Depending on which corner you make a mistake at, you might get away with it. But in most places, there is no margin for it.

"I definitely think this weekend is an opportunity for us. If we execute a good race, if we are 100% on everything, this could be an opportunity for us."
