Lando Norris says he is unsure of his approach to the title-deciding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, after a "tough" defeat to Max Verstappen in qualifying.
Despite initially looking faster than the Red Bull throughout practice, Verstappen roared to pole at Yas Marina ahead of Norris, with the Dutchman knowing that his best chance of stealing the title is to win and hope Norris finishes lower than fourth.
For Norris, a podium would be enough to become the 35th F1 world champion and McLaren's first since 2008, but in explaining the 0.301s gap to Verstappen, Norris expressed his major disappointment at the defeat.
"It is tough, it is tough," Norris explained.
"I mean, Max did a good job, so congrats to him, and we did everything we could, my lap was pretty good, I was pretty happy.
"So, of course, I am disappointed not to be on pole for the final weekend, but we just weren't fast enough today, so we will have to try to do it tomorrow."
When asked if he was still racing for the win even in the knowledge that P3 should secure the title, Norris was unsure of his approach.
"I don't know," he said.
"The time will come when I think of that, but for now, I am disappointed not to be on pole. I still want to try and win tomorrow, so that is going to be the goal."
