Lando Norris is set to miss out on the final practice session ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix after an issue was discovered with his power unit.
The reigning world champion classified 37 laps across both practice outings on Friday.
He finished in the top four on both occasions, and with team-mate Oscar Piastri setting the fastest time at the end of FP2, it was an encouraging start for McLaren.
However, ahead of FP3, the Woking-based squad found a problem with his ERS pack, which needs replacing.
“The team have identified an issue with the ERS pack on Lando's car, which now needs to be replaced,” the team stated.
“At the moment, it looks extremely unlikely that the car will make FP3, but the team are still working to prepare the car should it be possible to participate in the session.”
There is little concern over Norris' potential absence from qualifying later today.
