Lando Norris has joked his run to pole position at the Dutch Grand Prix was aided by having the “biggest balls”.

Norris endured a mixed day on Saturday at Zandvoort as a lack of pace during the sprint race saw him slip from second to third.

It left him to concede that McLaren was likely not in the fight in the Netherlands, just hours before he set the fastest lap in qualifying.

Norris enters Sunday's grand prix looking to secure back-to-back victories, but is expecting the limitations that arose in the sprint to appear once again in the main event.

“Certainly. We’ve not changed those things,” Norris told media including RacingNews365

“The car is still not our car. It’s certainly the best in high speed, no doubt, or I have the biggest balls, I don’t know!

“But it’s very, very strong there, and in low speed we just really still struggle too much to be confident about everything.

“We definitely made maybe a little bit of progress, but it’s still going to be the trickier side of things tomorrow.”

Norris' team-mate Oscar Piastri qualified in fourth place and noted that he felt happier behind the wheel compared to recent rounds.

That added confidence was echoed by Norris, who outlined he feels he can extract more pace when he can trust the car.

“It’s just new tyres, low fuel, it just seems to mask quite a few of our issues, and that was probably still the case today,” he said.

“And I just drove well. I just put a lot of things together. I got more out of my lap than I did yesterday. Still wasn’t a perfect lap, but I’m driving well.

“And like I said last weekend, when the car can be in a place where I have a little bit of confidence and I can drive to the level I can drive at, then we can be on pole.”
