George Russell will be investigated after qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix for failing to follow the race director's instructions at the Madring.
Specifically, the Mercedes driver did not comply with Rui Marques' notes on using the correct escape road at Turn 1.
The Briton topped the first qualifying segment, going half a tenth of a second faster than team-mate Kimi Antonelli, but also struck the wall. However, there did not appear to be any significant damage to the left-hand side of his W17.
He will report to the stewards in Madrid upon the conclusion of the qualifying session.
Russell is not the only driver who will visit the officials, with Carlos Sainz, who was eliminated in Q1, deemed to have potentially impeded Valtteri Bottas.
It appeared to be a slam-dunk case of blocking, and the Williams driver will likely be handed a three-place grid penalty, having originally qualified P17.
