Daniel Ricciardo has seemingly ruled himself out of a future appearance in the Indianapolis 500, admitting it “scares the shit out of me”.

The former F1 driver will attend the race this weekend as he teams up with Conor Daly to promote his wine brand.

Daly is set to start the race from eighth on the grid, and in the build-up to the event, he welcomed Ricciardo as a guest on his Speed Street podcast.

Ricciardo also insisted there is no stigma among F1 drivers regarding how they view the Indy 500.

“There's definitely not a 'we are cooler than you guys',” Ricciardo said.

“There's none of that, at least I never experienced that. We all just ultimately love racing.

“You guys do a very different discipline, especially the oval stuff, compared to circuit racing that we do with a ton of downforce.”

In the past, Max Verstappen has ruled himself out of a drive at the famous Indianapolis race, stating: “I don't need to risk my life there and potentially injure myself.”

It's a sentiment shared by Ricciardo, who has admitted there is a strong sense of intimidation that comes with the event.

“It's different, what you guys do,” Ricciardo said. “You said Max said it, I've said it for many years - it scares the shit out of me.

“I love it, it's freaking awesome. Like, I went to a sprint car race when I was back home over Christmas.

“I was watching, and I'm like 'Oh my Lord'. They are freaking awesome, and they're crazy.”
