Breaking: Red Bull announce signing of senior Aston Martin technical figure

Red Bull has announced the signing of Tom McCullough from Aston Martin as its future head of racing.

He will join the Milton Keynes-based team in early 2027, after serving a period of gardenning leave from the Aston Martin group. 

McCullough, who has enjoyed spells with Reynard Engineering, Williams, and Sauber, joined Aston Martin when it was Force India in 2014, originally as chief race engineer, before climbing to performance director in January 2018. 

However, in January 2025, he was re-assigned from the F1 team after poor performances across the second-half of 2023 and through 2024, across to the performance directorship of Aston Martin Performance Technologies. 

He was announced as leaving the Aston Martin group entirely in August 2026, and has now joined Red Bull in the newly-created role of 'head of racing.'

"We're delighted to welcome Tom to the team at the beginning of 2027, and look forward to the wealth of experience and expertise he will bring to the role," read a short Red Bull statement. 

His signing is the second big-name Red Bull has lured from another team, after the capture of Gwen Lagrue from Mercedes as young driver advisor.

McCullough's signing comes as the team prepares for life after Gianpiero Lambiase, with the head of race engineering, and Max Verstappen's engineer, agreeing to join McLaren, with this expected to be from the 2028 season. 

Other senior figures, such as chief designer Craig Skinner have also left, with a reshuffle seeing Ben Waterhouse becoming chief performance and design engineer, with Andrea Landi joining from Racing Bulls as head of performance.
