Charles Leclerc has explained how his final lap in Monaco Grand Prix qualifying was "on the edge" as he battled unwanted Ferrari F1 discoveries.
Leclerc made a mistake at Massanet on his first Q3 lap, but on a second attempt, roared to provisional pole position for his home race, with time to complete a third run.
Having slipped to fourth behind Kimi Antonelli, Max Verstappen, and Lewis Hamilton, Leclerc tumped the wall at Tabac and came to a halt on-track with damage on a weekend he has looked quick, but struggled for a consistent feeling with his car.
Last time out in Canada, he branded the weekend the "worst of my career" following struggles with the brakes of his SF-26 machine, something which has carried over into his home race in the Principality, as he described how deploying the brakes was like a "discovery."
"Well, the thing that I'm definitely not knowing is what I'm having at the moment," Leclerc told media, including RacingNews365.
"It is a bit of a discovery when I get on the brakes, and I don't want to go too much into detail, but it has been extremely inconsistent, and I've just been struggling massively, whether it was in Montreal or here, especially when the tyres are just not in the right window.
"On top of that, the inconsistency from the car made it very difficult.
"We are speaking about details, but I think the fact of being in or out of the window all the time, all these fine details make a huge difference, and I've just been struggling with it recently.
"I think the last lap was very much on the edge, and I think it was a very good lap until then, but I never finished it.
"I had a little bit of dirty air on that lap when I lost it at Turn 12. There was no traffic in itself, but dirty air made me lose the rear a little bit on entry."
