New Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell has explained the rationale behind a major reshuffle ahead of Adrian Newey's arrival.
Over the winter, new CEO Cowell was also appointed as team principal, with former boss Mike Krack moving across to a more engineering-based role as chief trackside engineer.
Performance director Tom McCullough has also been moved to a position to focus on the wider Aston Martin group, with technical director Dan Fallows leaving his role in late 2024.
The team is currently preparing to welcome Newey whose first day on the job as a shareholder and managing technical partner will be Monday 3rd March, two days after his official start date.
When asked to explain why the team had restructured over the off-season, former Mercedes engine boss Cowell gave efficiency as one reason.
"The organisational changes we made were really to make the existing organisation more efficient, and flatter organisations are naturally more efficient," Cowell told select media including RacingNews365.
"There are fewer reporting lines, communication is quicker and there tend to be fewer reports written, meetings, and so progress is made quicker, and I guess some of that was with a view to Adrian coming, but most of it was to improve the efficiency of our business.
"Adrian begins the first Monday in March, and everybody is excited at the thought of working with him, and the way we work together will be talked about on the day, and when he arrives, there will be a new office that's large enough for drawing board to go into.
"We're excited to have Adrian on board to work on the creativity of our race cars, and how are we going to lift our quality standards to have the fastest race car every year?
"That is our objective, but 248 people joined Aston Martin last year and it is those people and all the existing people that together working as a team will create this great race car.
"Individuals like Adrian have a great insight into the total car, but it is all of us working together that will deliver a great car."
