Alex Albon has suggested that Red Bull looks like the most efficient team so far at the pre-season Bahrain test.
The Milton Keynes-based squad enjoyed a positive first day in Bahrain on Wednesday as Max Verstappen clocked 136 laps and placed second on the timesheet.
It drew the attention of some rivals, with Albon's team-mate Carlos Sainz stating that Red Bull is a “step ahead” of the rest of the competition.
Red Bull has entered the season with its own power unit for the first time and has consistently downplayed expectations as it takes on the new challenge.
But Albon mirrored the comments of his team-mate, stating Red Bull seems to hold the early advantage over the power unit manufacturers.
“In terms of corners, there are a few teams that are competitive,” Albon told media including RacingNews365.
“The top four teams are all good in all the squiggly bits. The Red Bull is strong on the straights.
“What we've seen so far, it’s not just that it's strong on straights.
“It looks more consistent in terms of its deployment. It looks like the drivability is strong.
“There's a lot of lap time at the moment, just in drivability and making the car feel smooth.
“That's actually a lot of the work that's being done yesterday and today.”
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff was also impressed with the early data from Red Bull, going as far as stating the team is one second per lap faster on the straights.
When Wolff's comments were put to him, Albon replied: “I mean, the GPS is pretty telling. They are very quick on the straights.”
