Yuki Tsunoda opens door to F1 2027 return: 'Call me please!'

Yuki Tsunoda has stated F1 teams should consider him for a full-time drive in 2027 following his substitute appearance at the Dutch Grand Prix.

The Japanese driver was called up to race for Racing Bulls at Zandvoort last weekend, with Liam Lawson switching to Red Bull in place of an injured Isack Hadjar.

Tsunoda had just one practice session to reacclimatise himself to F1, having been dropped from a full-time drive at the end of 2025.

After navigating the sprint sessions, Tsunoda narrowly avoided a spot inside the top 10 during qualifying and the grand prix, but nonetheless impressed given his lack of experience with the current regulations.

As he is yet to finalise his 2027 plans, Tsunoda insisted that F1 teams should be open to securing his services.

“It's definitely better having this opportunity rather than not having any opportunity, not able to show what I can do with this regulation,” Tsunoda told media including RacingNews365. 

“This was overall positive. And what performance I showed, I think it's positive.

“So it's up to my manager and also other teams who haven't decided yet about next year's lineup, if they want to have me or not.

“But they should. Call me, please!"

Tsunoda was just a handful of seconds behind Pierre Gasly at the finish line, narrowly missing out on a point-scoring position on his return.

However, Tsunoda believes he was able to show his capabilities despite failing to reach the top 10.

“I know what I can do,” he said. “ I pretty much showed what I also what I can do to most of the most of the paddock.

“Just one race, a couple of sessions, able to fight close to the points. The outcome is obviously better scoring points, but I think I did as much as I can for now.”
