The Williams F1 team has been handed a duo of €5,000 fines for infringements relating to the starting procedure in Barcelona.
The Grove-based squad endured a highly challenging weekend as its car struggled for pace around the Spanish circuit.
It lined up at the start of the grand prix towards the back of the grid, but immediately caught the attention of the stewards after leaving equipment on the grid before the 15-second signal.
For Sainz, this related to “a black plastic box on the grass area next to the grid” which was not retrieved before the signal was given.
Albon faced a similar situation, but his infringement related to different equipment.
The stewards noted: “When Car 23 was released from its jacks before the start of the formation lap parts of the right front tyre blanket got caught under the car.
“Although the team tried to remove the parts before the start of the formation lap, these attempts were unsuccessful and car left with a cable still hanging off the car and the team thereby did not take all of their equipment with them after the 15-second signal.”
As a result, the team was fined €5,000 for both instances, adding a further dent to what has been a difficult weekend.
