What is corner mode in F1?
In 2026, F1 drivers will be able to access a new tool called 'corner mode' to assist them in grands prix, but what is 'corner mode' and how exactly does it work in F1?
For the new season, the cars now feature 'active aerodynamics', where the front and rear wings move to shed drag and allow cars to attain higher top speeds.
Whilst the rear wing is DRS-style in that a slot-gap opens when a driver is in the dedicated 'straight mode' zones, the front wing flap elements drop down when the system is activated.
This is known as 'straight mode'. In contrast, 'corner mode' is when the wings close and the car reverts back to its full downforce state to tackle corners before the next activation zone.
Both front and rear wings must open in 'straight mode' and then close again for 'corner mode.'
