Boost mode in F1
In 2026, the usual button drivers press to unleash more energy in F1 will be known as the 'boost button.'
When pressed, the button will trigger a change in the pre-selected power unit modes, unlocking more power as each team has determined, or if not, moving to full power deployment.
Unlike 'overtake mode', which can only be used by a driver chasing and within one second of the car ahead and in specific zones, 'boost' will be available to each driver, no matter if they are attacking or defending, at any point around the track.
Herein lies the challenge, as a driver must ration their allocation of energy to ensure they don't run out and leave themselves vulnerable to a rival after depleting their power.
