Video: Mercedes give fascinating insight into power unit

Highlighting the amazing technological feats achieved by Formula 1 teams, Mercedes have kicked off a new series to explain the various components from their F1 cars.

In a new series from the Mercedes team, they aim to 'shine a spotlight' on incredible technologies involved in F1 power units.

As the most successful team in F1's turbo-hybrid era, Mercedes offer an invaluable guide into a key part of one of the most complex racing series in the world.

Presented by the Managing Director of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, Hywel Thomas, their first video takes a look at the beating heart of an F1 car; the internal combustion engine (ICE).

The video provides a basic run-through of how it works, how it compares to a road car engine, and how their technological advancements translate to road car improvements.
