Remarkable Ollie Millroy interview following horrific crash and dramatic rescue
A week and a half after his heavy crash in the GT race at Shanghai International Circuit, Ollie Millroy speaks from his hospital bed. His Ferrari caught fire, and Dutchman Loek Hartog stopped, climbed out and pulled him from the flames.
Millroy came away with six broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a broken hand and a punctured lung. What he doesn't have is a memory of it. Post-traumatic amnesia has wiped everything from 30 seconds before the impact to an hour afterwards. He only found out what had happened when Loek came to see him in hospital that evening.
In this conversation he talks about that strange blank in his head, about what you say to the man who saved your life, about his young son seeing the crash on YouTube, and about why it isn't the impact that frightens him most, but what didn't happen afterwards. Together with Hartog he wants to use the attention around their story to push for better safety in motorsport.
