Following the launch of the new Mercedes W13 at Silverstone on Friday, the team used up one of their two permitted annual filming days by carrying out a shakedown of the 2022 car.
Fresh from revealing the W13 to a worldwide audience online, George Russell was given the honour of completing the first laps in the new car. Watched on by an eager Lewis Hamilton, Russell peeled out onto a wet and windy Silverstone track to carry out initial systems checks.
The weather improved marginally during the afternoon, with Hamilton taking over for his turn as he stepped back into an F1 car for the first time since the dramatic final lap of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
While there were no on-track dramas during the shakedown, Mercedes have become the first team to release onboard footage from a brand new 2022 F1 car on track.
