Max Verstappen has revealed Red Bull's goal in this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix is to continue building momentum, after surprisingly winning the Canadian Grand Prix.

The reigning world champion was not the favourite to win the recent round in Montreal but mastered the tricky conditions, increasing his lead in the championship to 56 points.

He heads to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with a brand new helmet in recognition of his supporters, some of which will actually feature on the design.

After a few races where the RB20 did not perform at its best, Red Bull are expected to return to its superior ways in Spain this weekend.

"We are back to the European races for a while now and I have been with the Team at the factory this week preparing for the Spanish Grand Prix, being the first race of a busy triple header," said Verstappen.

"Barcelona will be the first race where I will be debuting my new orange helmet. As a tribute to my fans and all of their support, they are actually featured on helmet and I think the final design looks really cool and detailed.

Building momentum

The Spanish GP is a special event for Verstappen, who famously won his first ever F1 race in the event back in 2016, on what was his first Grand Prix for Red Bull.

With kerb riding not being vital, the RB20 is expected to return to its dominant ways, something several drivers are concerned about.

Verstappen recognises himself that this weekend should be a strong one for the Milton Keynes-based team, as he looks to win back-to-back races.

"I have great memories from the circuit, especially winning my first Formula One race there," added Verstappen.

"It has a good mix of high and low-speed corners and we have historically driven well there so hopefully we can maximise the performance of the car this weekend.

"We are aiming to keep the momentum going from Canada, so we are looking forward to racing this weekend and hopefully have some good weather!"
