2026 F1 United States Grand Prix - Austin weather forecast
The upcoming United States Grand Prix at Austin will feature friendly conditions for F1 drivers - and provide a potential overtaking aid.
The weekend in Texas is currently forecast to be dry, with temperatures in the high-20s Celsius region, possibly tipping over to the low 30s on Saturday.
There are currently two rain cells of note appearing on weather radars, with one being to the south in the Gulf of Mexico, but is not expected to move inland from Galveston Bay up to Austin.
The other is trapped by the Rocky Mountains and will be present to the northwest of Texas throughout the weekend. Although some leading-edge cloud might drift towards the Texan state capital, the main rain cells will not.
Crucially, drivers can expect an overtaking aid in the form of a headwind into the iconic raised Turn 1 braking zone.
The straight-finish straight and approach to Turn 1 at Austin run to the south-east, which is where the wind is set to come from throughout the weekend, thus meaning a head-wind will be present, which will allow drivers to brake later into Turn 1 and try to pass rivals.
For the other major overtaking spot, at Turn 12 at the end of the back straight, which runs north-east to south-west, drivers will be greeted with a crosswind from left-to-right in the braking zone.
