Toto Wolff has thrown shade at those who continue to criticise the 2026 F1 cars after the Miami Grand Prix, insisting they should “hide”.
F1 returned after a five-week break last weekend in Miami, offering a first look at the cars and the modifications that were installed after some early-season complaints.
However, criticism of the cars continued, with reigning Lando Norris sounding his disappointment and suggesting the only fix is to get rid of the battery entirely.
On Sunday, there was a fierce early-race battle for the lead between multiple teams before Kimi Antonelli stretched his legs later in the race en route to his third consecutive victory.
Praising the spectacle, Wolff told media including RacingNews365: “If there's one single person that complains about the race today, I think they should hide, honestly.
“Now, obviously this track is a little bit easier, it's not so energy-stuffed.
“There's good games and there's bad games, so I think that was great, great advertising for F1.”
Wolff: McLaren has made a big step
While Antonelli was able to take the grand prix win, Mercedes was defeated in the sprint race on Saturday, with Norris taking victory.
Mercedes' rivals used the April break to close the gap to the front of the field, but Sunday's race demonstrated the Brackley-based squad still has an advantage over the pack.
Wolff has warned against getting complacent and asserted Mercedes must stay sharp in the development race.
“When it comes to the competitive order, we're still holding on to it,” he said.
“But the McLarens have made a big step. Red Bull on pure pace was massive in qualifying.
“I guess the strategy didn't really play well for them. In that respect, it wasn't easy at all.
“So we just got to keep developing, because this is a development race throughout the season and see how our upgrades are going to work in Montreal.”
