Red Bull is carrying out work on Max Verstappen's car and appears to be in a race against time to get the car ready for the start of the race.
Verstappen's qualifying session on Saturday ended abruptly following a crash at Turn 9.
The four-time champion is due to start the race from fifth on the grid, but there is work still being carried out as the race ticks closer.
Such procedures are somewhat of an unusual sight so close to the race.
While there doesn’t seem to be any real panic at the team, it’s clear that the work being carried out is not part of its original plan.
When asked, Red Bull confirmed to RacingNews365 that work is still underway.
An official FIA document detailed the amount of work Red Bull had to carry out following the Dutchman's crash.
Virtually the entire front end of the car was overhauled. Both the front wing and the nose were replaced, as was the entire left-hand front suspension. The steering column, the power steering and even the steering wheel itself also had to be replaced.
It didn’t stop there. The car’s underbody, one of the most crucial components for performance, has also been replaced. Only the wooden skid plate and the wear parts on the underside could be retained. In addition, Verstappen was fitted with a new rear wing.
The impact of the crash was so severe that Red Bull replaced the entire gearbox, including the hydraulic control system.
The complete rear suspension on both sides also had to be replaced. These are major repairs that demonstrate just how much force was unleashed on impact.
The left-hand sidepod – which houses key cooling systems, amongst other things – and the water radiator for the combustion engine have been replaced.
Should the car be ready for the start, the Dutchman will be hoping for a better outing than he endured 12 months ago in Austria.
On the opening lap of the race, he was eliminated at Turn 3 after being collected by Kimi Antonelli.
