Red Bull has been spotted experimenting with its front wing on the opening day of the second three-day test in Bahrain.
Across the Barcelona shakedown and the first test at the Bahrain International Circuit, Red Bull ran a front wing featuring very straight lines.
By contrast, its competitors ran front wings with a more downward-curved design, with or without a lowered lip in the central part of the front horizontal spar.
However, on the opening day of the second test in Bahrain, Isack Hadjar left the garage with a revised front wing showing a clearly different profile.
The Milton Keynes-based outfit is deploying different front-wing configurations to see how they work with varying degrees of rake (the forward lean of the overall car).
The front wing is crucial for the airflow passing under the car, with the lip on Red Bull’s new front wing increasing air velocity at the front and helping keep the nose low. Primarily, it alters the air pressure directed towards the floor.
After running the new front wing, Hadjar was later seen back on the old configuration, with the RB22 fitted with measuring equipment.
